Senegalese Prime Minister Ahmadou Alhaminou Mohamed Lo has called on the diaspora to embrace the “Senegal 2050” agenda.
He was visiting the Senegalese community in Côte d’Ivoire,
Discussions focused on social housing, financing for women and youth,
support for entrepreneurship, and the mobilisation of the skills of
Senegalese nationals living abroad.
PM Lo met with the Senegalese diaspora in Côte d’Ivoire as part of the government’s strategy to strengthen the contribution of Senegalese living abroad to the country’s economic and social development.
At the heart of this meeting was the “Senegal 2050” national transformation agenda, presented as a framework for mobilising the diaspora’s skills, resources, and initiatives in service of national ambitions.
The head of government emphasised the importance of greater involvement by Senegalese living abroad in the country’s transformation.
The discussions covered topics such as social housing, financing for
women and youth, and support for entrepreneurs.
A sum of 35 million CFA francs was mentioned in the context of supporting
entrepreneurship, alongside assistance mechanisms such as the General
Delegation for Rapid Entrepreneurship for Women and Youth (DER/FJ).
The proposed creation of a “Maison du Sénégal” (House of Senegal) in
Côte d’Ivoire also offers a way to strengthen ties between the Senegalese community and their home country.
This initiative could help coordinate the diaspora’s efforts and foster economic, social, and professional partnerships.
Furthermore, a network of approximately 300 Senegalese professionals based in Côte d’Ivoire represents a significant pool of skills and
expertise.
Their mobilisation – alongside entrepreneurs, investors, and community organizations – could contribute to achieving the development goals set out in the “Senegal 2050” agenda.
The meeting took place in the presence of the Senegalese ambassador,
the Consul General, and various professionals, entrepreneurs, investors, and representatives from Senegalese community organisations.
Through this initiative, the government aims to strengthen the role of the diaspora as a strategic partner in national development.
The objective is to foster the concrete participation of Senegalese living
abroad in building a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable Senegal by 2050.
