President Wavel Ramkalawan on Friday honoured Seychelles’ Mahé Skimmers Swimming Club for its record-breaking performance at championships held in Mauritius last month where the team secured an impressive 108 medals, including 46 golds.
During a courtesy meeting by the team at State House, Ramkalawan commended the 24-member delegation of young athletes for their competitive spirit and discipline, describing their achievement as a source of national pride.
“These swimmers have given us hope, proving what can be achieved through hard work and the unwavering support of their parents,” Ramkalawan said.
The regional tournament, which was held from 19-22 June and drew top swimming talent from across the Indian Ocean, served as a benchmark for Seychelles’ rising aquatic standards.
Coach Barnsley Albert noted that the high level of competition allowed athletes to track progress by age group, with standout performances from the Boys Under-12 and Girls 13–14 categories.
In recognition of their success, the swimmers presented the President with a commemorative t-shirt, while Ramkalawan gifted each athlete a Seychelles flag as a symbol of encouragement ahead of upcoming events, including the World Championships and World Junior Championships.
