Senegal and Guinea-Bissau have agreed to expand their bilateral judicial partnership following high-level discussions in Dakar between Senegalese Justice Minister Moussa Sarr and his Guinea-Bissau counterpart, João Bernardo Vieira.
Held on Monday, October 19, 2026, the diplomatic session focused on modernizing existing legal agreements, establishing joint capacity-building initiatives for magistrates, and enhancing administrative coordination to address cross-border security and freedom of movement.
During the proceedings, Minister Sarr pledged technical assistance to Guinea-Bissau, offering access to Senegal’s Judicial Training Centre and the specialized Financial Judicial Division to bolster regional counter-financial crime capabilities. Both delegations emphasized that maintaining structured institutional dialogue on border management is critical to facilitating lawful trade and regional integration. Moving forward, judicial authorities from Dakar and Bissau plan to draft a joint implementation roadmap to formalize technical exchanges and execute the agreed legal reforms.
