A mass shooting in the early hours of Saturday has left seven men dead at an informal settlement in Cape Town, underscoring the persistent challenge of violent crime in South Africa’s urban communities.
According to police, the victims were shot while socialising in Gugulethu’s Kanana informal settlement.
Three other men who were in the same residence at the time escaped unharmed.
The motive for the attack remains unknown and authorities have launched a manhunt for the perpetrators.
The incident adds to a grim pattern of violent crime in South Africa where at least 70 people are murdered daily on average.
