Seychelles and Rwanda on Thursday agreed to establish a formal focal‑point coordination mechanism to accelerate the implementation of bilateral agreements reached during President Paul Kagame’s 2023 state visit.
The decision was announced following a meeting at State House in Victoria between Seychelles Vice President Sebastien Pillay and Christine Nkulikiyinka, Rwanda’s Minister for Public Service and Labour and Special Envoy of President Kagame.
Talks focused on advancing cooperation in education, tourism, agriculture and trade, with emphasis on opening Rwandan markets to Seychelles’ maritime products.
Both sides also discussed strengthening collaboration in public service delivery, institutional capacity building and governance.
“In this regard, the Vice President proposed the establishment of a designated focal point of contact to facilitate coordination and enhance the implementation of joint initiatives,” the Seychellois State House said after the meeting.
During Kagame’s visit in 2023, the two countries signed a wide‑ranging framework covering health, agriculture, tourism, investment and security, including a visa waiver arrangement and enhanced law enforcement cooperation.
The new coordination mechanism is intended to ensure these agreements are implemented more swiftly and effectively.
