Kaweche Kaunda, one of the sons of Zambia’s founding President Kenneth Kaunda, died on Thursday in Ndola where he had travelled on business.
His elder brother, Panji Kaunda, confirmed the death, saying he was found unresponsive in his room early in the morning. A post‑mortem will determine the cause.
Kaweche was part of the prominent Kaunda family that played a central role in Zambia’s political history.
He was known for his involvement in public affairs and for supporting efforts to preserve the legacy of his father who led Zambia to independence in 1964 and governed for 27 years.
Panji Kaunda, who serves as Zambia’s High Commissioner to Malawi, described the loss as devastating.
Ministry of Information and Media permanent secretary Thabo Kawana said the funeral programme will be released once arrangements are finalised.
