Tunisia and Romania have signed a new cultural cooperation program aimed at significantly strengthening exchanges in the fields of art, heritage, and science, according to an official source in Tunis.
The agreement was signed by Tunisian Minister of Culture Amina Srarfi and her Romanian counterpart, Demeter Andras Istvan, marking a renewed commitment to the long-standing cultural ties between the two nations.
Under this comprehensive new program, both countries have committed to promoting cooperation across several cultural domains. The initiative is structured to encourage mobility, collaboration, and knowledge sharing: Performing Arts and Cinema: The program includes joint participation in folklore and heritage festivals, theater and performing arts workshops, and the exchange of theatrical texts. It also explicitly encourages film co-productions between the two nations.
Visual Arts and Literature: The agreement promotes the mobility of visual artists, joint artist residencies, and cooperation in the field of books and libraries through international fairs and professional exchanges. Heritage Preservation: Particular attention will be paid to the preservation of tangible and intangible cultural heritage through scientific collaboration. This is viewed as a concerted effort to ensure the transmission of these assets to future generations.
Tunisian Minister Amina Srarfi emphasized that the program reflects “the depth of Tunisian-Romanian cultural ties” and demonstrates a shared desire to build strong bridges between the two peoples.
Romanian Minister András Istvan Demeter highlighted the strategic importance of the relationship: “Tunisia is an essential partner for Romania in the Maghreb region. This program reflects our sincere desire to deepen bilateral relations and to promote the cultural diversity and creative richness of our two peoples.”
This new program builds upon cultural cooperation that has been in place since the 1970s, during which Tunisia and Romania have consistently increased artistic exchanges, festival participation, and joint projects in theater and film.
