A fire that broke out in an annex of the main branch of the Central Bank of West African States (BCEAO) in Ouagadougou has been contained.
This was thanks to the joint intervention of the institution’s security personnel and firefighters,
without disrupting the bank’s operations.
BCEAO announced that the fire started on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at approximately 6:00pm GMT, in
an annex of its main branch in the Burkinab capital.
In a statement received by APA, the sub-regional monetary institution specified that the blaze was quickly contained thanks to the mobilisation of its security personnel and the swift intervention of
the Ouagadougou National Fire Brigade.
According to the BCEAO, the incident caused only minor material damage and had no impact on the operations of the main branch, which continued its activities as normal.
The Central Bank reassured the public that its operations continued and its facilities in the Burkinabe capital remained fully operational.
It also expressed its gratitude to the National Fire Brigade and the relevant state services for their professionalism and efficiency in managing the incident.
No information has been released regarding the cause of the fire.
