The Confederation of African Football (CAF) unveiled the new CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy on Wednesday, July 2nd, in Casablanca.
This powerful new symbol accompanies the upcoming competition, which Morocco will host from July 5th to 26th, 2025, marking a significant milestone for African women’s football.
Inspired by the men’s AFCON trophy, the new WAFCON trophy features a blossoming flower, with its petals representing the participating nations. At its heart, a golden sphere adorned with a map of Africa symbolizes the continent’s pride and ambition for women’s football.
Crafted from silver and gold, the trophy stands on a white marble base elegantly engraved with the competition’s name, emphasizing the growing prominence of WAFCON in the African sporting landscape.
The 15th edition of the tournament will see 12 teams compete for the coveted prize. Nigeria, the most successful nation with 11 titles, will aim to maintain its dominance. As the host nation, Morocco hopes to make a strong impression in front of its home crowd. The Moroccan national team is placed in Group A, alongside Zambia, Senegal, and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This new trophy clearly illustrates CAF’s commitment to promoting equality and advancing the development of women’s football across the continent.
