Transitional President Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno of Chad received and honored Chadian athletes who excelled at two recent major competitions: the African School Games in Algiers and the African Karate Championship in Ndjamena.
The event, held on August 19, celebrated the athletes’ achievements and the pride they brought to their country.
At the first-ever African School Games, held from July 26 to August 5, 2025, Chad showcased an impressive performance, ranking 4th out of 54 nations. The country’s athletes secured a total of 9 medals, including 5 gold, 2 silver, and 2 bronze.
In June, Chad also hosted and competed in the Union of African Federations Karate Championship. The Chadian team finished in 3rd place out of 11 participating countries, earning a total of 48 medals, with 3 gold, 34 silver, and 11 bronze.
President Deby Itno warmly congratulated the delegation, which was led by the Minister of Youth and Sports, Maide Hamit Lony, and the President of the Chadian Olympic and Sports Committee (COST), Idriss Dokony Adiker. “Congratulations to you and all your coaches,” the president stated. “The nation is proud of you, and it is with the same pride that I receive the medals won in Algeria and Chad.”
Despite modest results in football, Chad is demonstrating its competitiveness in other sports, giving its public new reasons for national pride.
