Team South Africa finished 11th on the final medals table of the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, ending the event as the second‑ranked African nation behind Nigeria.
The team collected 28 medals, one more than at the 2022 Games in Birmingham, including seven gold, 11 silver and 10 bronze.
The Games, held from 23 July to 2 August, saw Australia dominate the standings with 171 medals, followed by England with 110 and Canada with 62.
Nigeria – which had 10 gold medals and seven silver and bronze medals each – led African countries with 24 medals, placing seventh overall, while Kenya finished 13th with 12 medals.
South Africa’s standout performer was swimmer Pieter Coetze who claimed three individual gold medals in the backstroke and added two more in relay events.
Additional gold medals came from Lara van Niekerk in swimming, para swimmers Nathan Hendricks and Christian Sadie, and Sinesipho Dlamini in athletics.
