The demand for flights to, from and within Africa increased by 6.4 percent, according to the latest analysis of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released on Monday.
The analysis based on the movements of the passenger air travel market, reflects on year-on-year traffic and capacity data as reported by airlines in each region worldwide during July 2026.
According to IATA data, through the course of July 2026, African airlines witnessed a 6.4% y-o-y rise in demand, a 9.0% y-o-y expansion in capacity and a 74.1% passenger load-factor (the percentage of capacity taken up by the market), which was slightly lower (-0.3 percentage points y-o-y) in July 2025.
During the period under review, the continent had accounted for 2.2% of the total global market for passenger air travel.
Globally, during July 2026, airlines experienced a 0.2% y-o-y decline in demand, a 0.3% y-o-y contraction in capacity, while witnessing an 85.2% passenger load-factor (down -0.1 percentage points y-o-y).
