Ethiopian athletes have performed well in other competitions including in the men’s 3000-meter steeplechase, where Athlete Abraham Sime also triumphed, winning his event.
On the women’s side, Ethiopia’s Athlete Tsige Duguma won the 800-meter race at the same Shanghai meet.
Duguma finished with an impressive time of 1 minute, 56 seconds, and 64 microseconds, marking a best time performance for her.
The Olympic silver medalist and former world indoor champion ran a measured race, delivering a winning kick with 100 metres to go. Duguma put the hammer down before bursting over the line in a meeting record time and world lead, with Australia’s Sarah Billings finishing more than a second adrift in second place.
