The breakdown of military cooperation with France, which led to the closure of three major bases in Chad, has prompted a call by former employees for their reintegration.
This is one of the first direct consequences of the French army’s departure from Chad.
Meeting in a general assembly in N’Djamena, 402 former employees of the French military bases denounced their precarious situation following the withdrawal of French forces.
Despite their support for the breakdown of military cooperation, they are demanding professional reintegration measures.
“We are asking the government to take immediate steps for our professional reintegration and the guarantee of our social rights,” said Mbaitoubam Bruno, secretary general of the union.
On November 28, 2024, the Chadian government renounced the 1978 military agreements with Paris.
The French army gradually withdrew from the bases of Faya, Abéché and N’Djamena, leading to this mass retrenchment.
The ex-workers, victims of changing geopolitics, are now waiting for the intervention of the authorities to change their current fortune.
