Guinean President Mamadi Doumbouya Thursday received a delegation from Rusal, led by the Russian ambassador to Guinea, Alexey V. Popov during which they discussed the local processing of mineral resources and the strengthening of cooperation between Conakry and Moscow.
According to the Guinean Presidency discussions focused notably on the implementation of the Simandou 2040 programme, with particular emphasis on the local processing of Guinean mineral resources.
The Guinean leader reaffirmed his commitment to accelerating the processing of raw materials within the country – a move viewed by authorities as a key pillar of the strategy to maximise the value of mineral resources.
According to the Presidency, this approach aims to enable Guinea to further develop its industrial base, generate added value, and increase the economic benefits derived from exploiting its natural
resources.
Guinean authorities specifically highlighted the ongoing construction of three alumina refineries and the completion of a gold refinery.
For its part, the Russian delegation reiterated its interest in projects aligned with Simandou 2040 priorities and expressed its willingness to contribute to their realisation.
The delegation also sought President Doumbouya’s support in facilitating the implementation of its investments in Guinea, particularly in the mining, industrial, and infrastructure sectors.
The meeting also addressed the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Guinea and Russia.
Guinean Minister of Mines and Geology Bouna Sylla emphasized the importance of processing mineral resources locally and gradually building a value chain around mining operations.
This meeting takes place as Guinean authorities present Simandou 2040 as a framework designed to turn mining and industrial development into a driver for transforming the national economy.
