The Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) has issued a robust statement of solidarity for international defender Omar El Hilali following allegations of racial abuse during a La Liga match on Sunday.
The 22-year-old RCD Espanyol player was reportedly targeted with offensive remarks during a Matchday 26 fixture against Elche CF.
In an official communiqué, the FRMF expressed its “full solidarity and unconditional support” for El Hilali. The governing body condemned the incident, reaffirming its “firm stance against all forms of racism and discrimination, both inside and outside stadiums.”
The confrontation took place at the Estadio Manuel Martínez Valero. El Hilali alerted referee Iosu Galech Apezteguia to remarks allegedly made by Spanish forward Rafa Mir, prompting the official to activate the league’s anti-racism protocol. The match was briefly suspended for several minutes before resuming to a 2-2 draw. The FRMF concluded by reiterating its commitment to the values of tolerance and fair play on the global stage.
