South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed seasoned business leader Alistair Ruiters as Special Advisor for Investment Promotion.
In a statement on Thursday, Ramaphosa’s office said the appointment aims to bolster South Africa’s investment drive.
“Ruiters will advise Ramaphosa on South Africa’s continuing investment drive which is a principal component of the 7th Administration’s focus on inclusive economic growth and job creation.”
Ruiters, who served as Director-General of Trade and Industry for five years, brings extensive experience in economic policy, business leadership and regulatory frameworks.
He previously held roles as Commissioner of the Competition Commission, entrepreneur and executive leader in institutions such as the National Empowerment Fund, Pebble Bed Modular Reactor, and Afarak Group.
His expertise is expected to support government efforts to enhance South Africa’s investment attractiveness, promote economic diversification and strengthen trade integration across continental and global supply chains.
Ruiters holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Oxford University and a BA Honours from the University of Cape Town, reinforcing his credentials as a highly qualified economic strategist.
