Senegal has been awarded the 2026 Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) Chair’s Award in recognition of its leadership in resource governance, public data disclosure, and institutional accountability across its mining, oil, and gas sectors.
The international honor was formally presented to Senegalese Minister of Energy and Petroleum El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf during a ceremony at the 10th EITI Global Conference in Brussels.
The award follows Senegal’s 2026 validation performance under the EITI Standard, where the West African nation achieved a “very good” score of 89 out of 100 points. Evaluators highlighted significant national progress in beneficial ownership disclosures, fiscal transparency reforms, and active multi-stakeholder participation involving civil society and private operators. The recognition coincides with Senegal’s transition into commercial hydrocarbon production, reinforcing government commitments to manage natural resource revenues prudently while expanding domestic value creation and local content frameworks.
