Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye is participating today as a guest of honor in the 15th Summit of the Community of Portuguese-Speaking Countries (CPLP) in Bissau.
This summit marks the beginning of Guinea-Bissau’s two-year rotating presidency of the organization, and President Faye’s presence underscores Dakar’s commitment to strengthening ties with the Portuguese-speaking world.
Ahead of the summit, Guinea-Bissau’s President Umaro Sissoco Embaló on Thursday received Equatorial Guinea’s Minister of State and Foreign Affairs, Simeon Oyono Angue, who delivered a message from President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo. This meeting reflects the momentum of the 15th CPLP edition, which aims to bolster bilateral cooperation and collaboration with the Community’s new presidency.
On Thursday evening, President Embaló hosted an official dinner at the presidential palace for the attending delegations. In a display of traditional hospitality, he personally welcomed each guest, emphasizing the importance of these gatherings in strengthening fraternity among Portuguese-speaking nations.
During his address, President Embaló highlighted the fundamental values of the CPLP: dialogue, cooperation, cultural richness, and a common language. The evening also served to commemorate the 29th anniversary of the institution, which was founded on July 17, 1996, in Lisbon, with a celebratory cake and customary congratulations.
This visit by President Faye reaffirms Senegal’s dedication to deepening its diplomatic and economic relations with Portuguese-speaking countries.
