The Arab League has unanimously reaffirmed the Skhirat agreement as a reference in regional forums for resolving the Libyan crisis.
This also confirms Morocco’s central role in supporting the Libyan process.
This text, supported by the United Nations, continues to be considered the legitimate foundation for an inclusive political solution in Libya.
In this context, Morocco’s role as a neutral mediator was once again highlighted.
On December 18, 2024, inter-Libyan consultations resumed in Bouznika after several months of interruption. The talks aim to create the conditions for consensus around the organisation of general elections and the establishment of a democratic government.
In line with its diplomatic policy, Morocco is offering a framework for dialogue free from external pressure, in keeping with its doctrine of respect for Libyan sovereignty.
Signed on December 17, 2015, in Skhirat, the eponymous agreement marked a notable step forward in the crisis resolution process.
However, stumbling blocks remain, particularly around the finance law and institutional powers, which led to the postponement of the talks initially scheduled for July 2024.
