Kenya’s President William Ruto has accused his predecessor Uhuru Kenyatta of financing the opposition in an attempt to destabilise his government, APA reported on Friday.
Ruto’s remark comes after recent accusations by a section of Kenya Kwanza leaders that Uhuru is financing the Linda Mwananchi movement and the overall opposition.
While addressing residents in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County on Thursday, Ruto said that Uhuru had failed to address issues such as affordable housing and universal health coverage during his presidency and had now resorted to supporting efforts to remove him from office.
Ruto said his administration should be judged by its record, alleging that the opposition rely on slogans such as “one term” and “must go” without presenting a clear alternative agenda.
The President pointed to affordable housing construction sites, markets and hostels being built across the country as some of the projects creating employment opportunities, particularly for young people.
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua warned President William Ruto against blaming former President Kenyatta for his political woes, saying the challenges facing his administration are of his own making.
Speaking during a tour of Nakuru on Friday, Gachagua said the Ruto administration should take responsibility for the challenges facing the country instead of pointing fingers at Uhuru.
Gachagua predicted a landslide victory for the opposition in the 2027 general election, saying the outcome would amount to a vote of no confidence in Ruto’s administration.
