Egypt secured a crucial victory at the U21 Men’s Volleyball World Championship on Tuesday, defeating host country China in a thrilling five-set match (3-2). This win propels the Egyptian team into the round of 16.
The “Pharaohs” won the intense match with set scores of 25-18, 25-22, 26-28, 17-25, and 15-13. After building a two-set lead, Egypt faced a strong comeback from the Chinese team, but they held on to win the decisive tiebreak.
Egypt’s victory was powered by a collective effort, with Hamza Awad leading the way with 20 points. He was well-supported by teammates Mahmoud Abdelbaki, Ahmed Amer, and Youssef Elrassas. Other notable performances came from Elsafy (20 points), Houda (17 points), and Abo Gabal (15 points).
For China, Li Hai was a standout player with 28 points, while Li Duo added 20. However, Egypt’s disciplined defense and strong blocking, which earned them 19 points, ultimately proved to be the difference.
This victory not only moves Egypt to second place in Pool A but also confirms their growing strength on the international stage, particularly in a competition often dominated by European and Asian teams.
