The Women’s World Taekwondo Championships will be held from August 28 to 30 in Taiyuan, Shanxi Province, northern China, with the announced participation of 391 athletes from 58 countries and the World Refugee Taekwondo Team, according to World Taekwondo.
Africa will be represented at the Women’s Taekwondo Championships in Taiyuan by Kimi Laurene Ossin of Ivory Coast, gold medallist in the +67 kg category at the 2026 Rome Grand Prix, Wafa Masghouni of Tunisia, and Amina Dehhaoui of Morocco.
The competition, which will bring together 391 athletes from 58 countries, will take place in eight weight categories: -46 kg, -49 kg, -53 kg, -57 kg, -62 kg, -67 kg, -73 kg, and +73 kg. According to World Taekwondo, “this edition promises to be the largest ever organised.”
Taiyuan will host the third edition of the Women’s World Championships, following Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2022 and Malabo, Equatorial Guinea in 2025.
The previous edition featured 188 athletes. Several Olympic and world champions are also expected to participate, including Hungary’s Viviana Márton, Olympic champion in Paris in 2024; South Korea’s Yujin Kim, also an Olympic gold medallist in 2024; and Belgium’s Sarah Chaari, the reigning world champion in the -73 kg category.
