Chad is once again in mourning following deadly clashes that broke out on the evening of Wednesday, in Mandakao, a village 18 kilometers from Beinamar, in the Logone Occidental province.
According to a government statement, the confrontation left 35 people dead and six others injured.
Government spokesperson Gassim Chérif said that defense and security forces were deployed swiftly to contain the violence and restore order.
Acting on instructions from Prime Minister Allah Maye Halina, a high-level government delegation—led by the Minister of State for Territorial Administration and Decentralization along with the Minister of Public Security—attended the scene on the morning of May 15.
Their visit was to assess the extent of the tragedy and provide support to the affected populations.
The government strongly condemned the incident, labeling it a barbaric act, and vowed to take all necessary measures to identify, pursue, and bring the perpetrators and their accomplices to justice.
Authorities called for calm, restraint, and collective responsibility, urging the public to help maintain peace and national unity, which they say is crucial for the country’s stability.
The Logone Occidental region has previously witnessed intercommunal tensions, raising concerns over the recurrence of violence in the area.
Spokesperson Gassim Chérif Mahamat reaffirmed the state’s commitment to protecting the population and promoting social cohesion across the country.
