Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said its operatives have eliminated at least 22 al-Shabaab fighters including several of its operations chiefs in the centre of the country.
NISA in a statement over the weekend said the insrurgents were killed during two separate operations carried out in Hiran and Mudug regions with international partners under the peacekeeping mission.
NISA said the first operation took place in the Dumaaye area of Mudug region, where security forces targeted a gathering of militants and senior commanders.
“Approximately 15 members were killed during the first strike,” it said.
Among those reported killed were several leaders identified as Xudeyfa Galinle, described as the deputy representative in Mudug; Qataatow, a former militia commander in the region; Abdirahman Garwayne, leader in the Jowle area; Daahir, who reportedly commanded militias in the Dumaaye and Dabagalo areas; and Abdiwali, a former militia leader in Bacaadweyne.
lhouses believed to be used by militants serving as guards for Mustafa Caato, who is alleged to be a key militia leader in Hiran.
The operation killed seven individuals, including two figures said to play significant roles in the group’s financial network: Qaliif Mumin Sabriya and Osman Abdulle Farah.
The authorities also reported that vehicles used by the militants were destroyed during the raid.
NISA officials said the operations are part of an intensified campaign aimed at dismantling militant networks and eliminating their remaining hideouts across the country.
The agency reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing armed groups that threaten Somalia’s stability and security.
The operations come amid ongoing efforts by Somali security forces and allied partners to weaken insurgent groups operating in central regions of the country.
