Algeria is intensifying its efforts to deepen trade relations with other African nations, strategically leveraging opportunities presented by the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
The nation is actively showcasing its investment potential and strategic infrastructure as it gears up to host the 2025 Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) roadshow.
Algerian Minister of Foreign Trade, Kamal Rezig, underscored the pivotal role of ongoing infrastructure projects in enhancing continental connectivity and boosting trade. He specifically highlighted initiatives such as the Trans-Saharan Highway, the Nigeria-Algeria gas pipeline, and the expanding fiber optic network.
To attract further investment, Algeria is dedicated to fostering a stable, transparent, and conducive economic environment. This commitment is supported by administrative reforms, a strengthened banking system, and sustained efforts in skills development aimed at adapting to global economic shifts. Algeria’s share of intra-African trade has seen a modest increase from 1.9 percent in 2022 to 2.2 percent in 2025, driven primarily by its exports of oil and fuel. Key trading partners within Africa include Tunisia, South Africa, Côte d’Ivoire, Nigeria, and Senegal.
The Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF), organized by Afreximbank in partnership with the Algerian government, stands as a major event for businesses and investors across the continent. The fourth edition of this influential fair is scheduled to take place in Algiers from September 4 to 10, 2025, and is expected to draw over 2,000 exhibitors and visitors from more than 140 countries.
Olusegun Obasanjo, Chairman of the IATF Advisory Council, reiterated that intra-African trade presents a unique opportunity to bolster the continent’s economic resilience and accelerate its industrialization efforts. Ms. Kanayo Awani, Executive Vice President of Afreximbank, further emphasized the IATF’s crucial role in bridging information gaps in trade and facilitating robust commercial exchanges. She encouraged Algerian companies to capitalize on their competitive advantages in strategic sectors such as energy, agriculture, and technology.
The IATF 2025 program is designed to be comprehensive, featuring not only trade exhibitions but also cultural events, an economic forum, an automotive show, and dedicated initiatives for youth and innovation.
This proactive engagement underscores Algeria’s strong commitment to playing a leading role in Africa’s economic integration and development.
