The African Press Agency (APAnews), based in Dakar, Senegal has taken a new strategic step in its international development by officially launching its Spanish-language service.
The initiative aims to reach Spanish-speaking communities in Africa, Latin America, and Europe by providing rich, diverse, and contextually relevant content.
Previously recognised for its French and English services across Africa and beyond, APAnews now adds Spanish to its linguistic arsenal.
This decision reflects a strong commitment to opening its content to a growing Spanish-speaking audience, particularly African diasporas in Spanish-speaking countries and Latin American readers seeking in-depth analysis of Africa affairs.
The new service will offer daily news dispatches translated from flagship articles published in French or English, covering politics, economics, society, environment, culture, sports, and technology. It will also feature exclusive articles in Spanish, co-produced by a bilingual team based in Dakar with correspondents in several African countries, as well as thematic reports focusing on transatlantic issues between Africa and Latin America: migration, trade, culture, and energy transitions.
The launch of the Spanish service is accompanied by strengthened ties with Spanish-speaking media and institutional actors.
Partnerships are being considered with Latin American news agencies, news channels, and international organisations to distribute APAnews content across existing networks. This initiative follows the path of successful collaborations, such as the one concluded in 2024 with APO Group to expand the dissemination of APAnews’ French-language content.
Through this multilingual service, APAnews aims to attract millions of Spanish-speaking readers, increase institutional subscriptions in Spanish, and reinforce its role as an inclusive pan-African platform whose content is available in three major languages. This launch responds to the expectations of a global audience increasingly attentive to the links between Africa and Latin America.
It takes place against the backdrop of growing interest in South-South cooperation, strengthening APAnews’ position as a leading player in multilingual African news domain.
