The African Union (AU) facilitator for the conflict in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Togolese President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbe, is scheduled to meet with his Angolan counterpart in Luanda to discuss potential peace solutions.
According to a post on the Angolan presidency’s Facebook page, President Gnassingbe is expected to arrive in Luanda on Thursday for a working visit dedicated to his mediation efforts in the ongoing conflict in eastern DRC.
Recently appointed by the African Union (AU) as the mediator for this crisis, the Togolese Head of State will meet with Angolan President Joao Lourenço, who is the current chairperson of the African Union.
This meeting is a crucial step in the mediation process aimed at achieving a lasting resolution to the persistent conflict in eastern DRC. President Gnassingbe succeeds President Lourenço in this role, who recently stepped down to focus on his broader continental responsibilities as AU chairperson.
