Senegalese President Bassirou Diomaye Faye received former Liberian President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Ellen Johnson Sirleaf in Dakar on Tuesday, ahead of a high-level continental forum on female governance.
Organized by the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Center, the international gathering opens Wednesday in the Senegalese capital to examine political, economic, and social pathways for expanding women’s leadership across Africa.
During their bilateral meeting, former President Sirleaf expressed her gratitude to President Faye for hosting the high-level dialogue. As the first democratically elected female head of state in Africa, Sirleaf has long championed gender equality, conflict resolution, and increased female participation in executive decision-making. The high-level discussions provided an opportunity for both leaders to review broader African development priorities while emphasizing the vital role women play in driving sustainable institutional and political transformation.
The selection of Dakar as the forum’s host city underscores ongoing debates regarding gender equity in public administration and corporate leadership across the region.
