Burkina Faso’s Minister of State for Agriculture, Ismael Sombie is calling on the private sector to increase investment in the agricultural, livestock, and fisheries sectors during a visit to several private farms in Bagre, in the Nakambe region.
As part of the monitoring of the 2026–2027 agro-pastoral season, the Minister of State visited three private sites to assess their investments, activities, and development prospects.
At Excellis Invest Group, an 82-hectare agro-pastoral farm, the delegation led by Ismael Sombie viewed maize and soybean crops.
For the current season, the company projects a yield of over 540 tonnes of maize and more than 20 tonnes of soybeans.
Several maize varieties – including Massongo, Bondofa, Wari, and Semax – are being tested there.
The operation also employs approximately 480 people across its various activities.
The tour continued at the sites of Sociéte Faso Agropole, which farms 72.6 hectares, and SIIF, which farms 70 hectares.
At the end of the visit, Ismael Sombie commended the promoters for their investments and encouraged them to boost production capacity and further develop value chains.
“Private investment must drive increased national production, job creation, wealth generation, and higher local value-added,” he stated in essence.
The minister urged more Burkinabe private sector players to invest in agriculture, livestock farming, and fisheries – sectors considered vital for boosting national production and consolidating food
sovereignty.
The visit to Bagre took place as part of the monitoring of the 2026-2027 agro-pastoral season.
