Carlos Queiroz, the coach of the Black Stars of Ghana has announced his resignation days after his side lost to Colombia 1-nil in the World Cup last 32.
Queiroz was appointed in April ahead of the World Cup taking place in US, Canada and Mexico.
The 73-year-old former Manchester United coach joined Jordan coach Jamal Sellami and Tunisia cach Herve Renard following his side group stage exit from the tournament.
The Portuguese who coached five teams in consecutive World Cups including Iran, Portugal and Egypt described the Black Stars performance at the tournament as creditable.
Ghana were in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia and emerged among the third best placed teams with four points from three matches. They had beat Panama 1-0 in their opening fixture before drawing England 0-0 and losing to Croatia 2-1. They score twice and condeded three goals.
Queiroz has recommended that ”success must start off the field, by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent”.
With their eliminaion from the World Cup the Black Stars will turn their attention to a seires of qualifiers for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. Their campaign in Group C begins in September as they take on fellow West Africans Gambia, Ivory Coast and Somalia.
Ghana missed out on the 2025 AfCON in Morocco.
