Chad’s Minister of Public Health and Prevention, Dr. Abdelmadjid Abderrahim, inaugurated the region’s first oxygen production plant on Monday in Mongo.
A product of cooperation between Chad and UNICEF, the Mongo plant represents a major advancement for the Guéra region’s healthcare system.
It ensures a continuous and reliable supply of medical oxygen, essential for treating respiratory distress, neonatal emergencies, obstetric and surgical cases.
Guéra’s Health Delegate, Dr. Abdoulaye Moustapha Fadoul, emphasised that the facility would become a vital tool for saving lives on a daily basis.
UNICEF’s representative in Chad, Luciano Calestini, reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to sustainably supporting the Ministry of Health in improving healthcare services.
The minister highlighted the historic nature of the achievement, noting that it is the first time a region like Guéra has benefited from an oxygen production plant.
The facility will also serve the Salamat and Batha provinces, helping to modernise technical healthcare infrastructure and strengthen resilience against medical emergencies.
The project aligns with the vision of President Marshal Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, aimed at ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all Chadians.
The inauguration was attended by UNICEF’s representative in Chad, Luciano Calestini, as well as provincial authorities and development partners.
