In a significant move to restructure the nation’s primary security agencies, Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno announced a series of key appointments on the evening of July 23rd.
Several high-ranking Chadian officials under the Ministry of Public Security have been replaced, following proposals put forth by the minister. The Directors General of the General Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation (DGRI), the National Police, and the National Gendarmerie were among those relieved of their duties.
Taking the helm as the new head of the National Gendarmerie is Major General Djido Mahamat Haggar. The DGRI will now be led by Brigadier General Ibrahim Irig Adam Haroun. For the National Police, Comptroller General Paul Manga, previously the institution’s spokesperson, has been promoted to Deputy Director General, succeeding Mahamat Abdelkader Oumar, also known as Baba Ladé, a former rebel leader. Additionally, the Chadian National and Nomadic Guard (GNNT) sees a change in leadership with the appointment of Major General Bourma Hemchi Tchougoubou as its new Deputy Commander.
