Southern Africa’s regional carrier Airlink announced Monday that it will commence scheduled service connecting Johannesburg’s Lanseria International Airport with Harare starting November 15, 2026.
Operating three weekly round-trip flights, the route marks the first direct scheduled commercial service linking the privately operated airport northwest of Johannesburg directly to the Zimbabwean capital.
The expansion establishes Airlink’s inaugural scheduled operation out of Lanseria, offering a point-to-point alternative for travelers residing or working in western Gauteng and the North-West Province. Airlink Chief Executive Officer de Villiers Engelbrecht highlighted that the corridor between Johannesburg and Harare experienced robust demand averaging nearly 60,000 monthly passenger seats in 2025. By adding departure options from Lanseria, the airline aims to complement its primary hub operations at O.R. Tambo International Airport while catering directly to passengers situated within Lanseria’s immediate catchment zone.
Airlink will deploy a 98-seat Embraer E190 jet on the route, configured with six business class seats and 92 economy class seats in a two-by-two layout with no middle seating. Outbound flights from Lanseria will depart on Monday, Thursday, and Saturday mornings at 07:00, arriving in Harare at 08:40. Return services from Harare will operate on Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday evenings, departing at 17:45 and landing at Lanseria at 19:25 local time. Reservations for the new route are now open through the carrier’s digital platforms and partner travel agencies.
