The newly appointed Ivorian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Kaba Niale, held her inaugural collective audience with the European Union (EU) diplomatic corps on Monday, signaling a renewed commitment to a partnership that remains Abidjan’s most vital economic pillar.
The high-level meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs brought together a significant delegation led by Irchad Razaaly, the EU representative to Côte d’Ivoire, along with ambassadors from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. The strong turnout was designed to showcase the unified support of the 27 EU member states for Côte d’Ivoire’s regional leadership and economic trajectory.
“The EU is by far the leading trading partner, the largest investor, and the largest employer in Côte d’Ivoire,” Razaaly noted following the discussions. Beyond commerce, the talks focused heavily on a “highly ambitious economic agenda” and the security challenges facing the West African region. The EU reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Ivorian defense capacities and supporting its exercise of regional responsibilities in an increasingly volatile global landscape.
Minister Kaba Niale praised the “historic support” of the European entity, emphasizing that the relationship is built on a shared commitment to international law, multilateralism, and human rights. “I was able to assure them that we will work together to strengthen this relationship, which is withstanding the turbulence of the world,” she stated. The meeting marks a strategic “first contact” for Niale, solidifying the EU’s role as the primary anchor for Ivorian diplomacy and economic growth.
