Egyptian President has called on the United States and Iran to prioritize a political solution to their dispute, while reaffirming Cairo’s support for the security of Gulf countries.
President Abdel Fattah Al-Sissi advised Washington and Tehran to favour dialogue to resolve their ongoing dispute.
He was speaking at a press conference in Cairo with Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, who was on an official visit to Egypt on November 3 and 4.
The Egyptian leader urged the parties concerned to “give understanding and dialogue a chance.”
He also called on US President Donald Trump to support mediation efforts to reach a political
solution.
This declaration comes in a context of strong regional tensions, marked in particular by American strikes against the Iranian island of Qeshm, in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Iranian agency IRNA reported explosions on site, while the situation in this strategic passage
remains a major concern for global energy markets.
On the security aspect, Al-Sissi reaffirmed Egypt’s categorical refusal of any threat targeting Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries.
He recalled that “Arab national security is indivisible”, warning against the consequences of an extension of the conflict.
The Egyptian president also assured the international community that his country would continue
its consultations with the various parties to limit the economic and humanitarian repercussions of military operations.
Concerning Gaza, Al-Sisi reaffirmed the centrality of the Palestinian question and rejected any attempt to displace the Palestinian population. He also insisted on preserving the unity of the
Palestinian territories.
He called for the full implementation of Donald Trump’s peace plan and to guarantee the safe and unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave.
