In response to inflationary pressures and the hardships faced by households, the Moroccan government – led by Fatima-Zahra El Mansouri – is ramping up measures to safeguard purchasing power.
On Tuesday, the Moroccan executive announced the creation of an interministerial commission tasked with monitoring price trends and taking the necessary steps to protect citizens’ purchasing power.
Particular focus is being placed on products that see high demand during the month of Ramadan.
According to an official statement, Fatima-Zahra El Mansouri presided over a meeting in Rabat on Tuesday, November 3, to address recent developments in the national economy, track trends in purchasing power, and examine the impact of price fluctuations on the domestic market and the daily lives of citizens.
During the meeting, El Mansouri affirmed that the executive branch “is fully aware of the current economic climate and the challenges it presents.”
She added that the government also recognises the scale of the pressures and financial burdens weighing heavily on Moroccan households – especially those within the lower and middle socioeconomic segments.
The Moroccan official emphasized that protecting purchasing power and preserving social cohesion are absolute priorities in the implementation of the government’s agenda.
She pledged that the government would spare no effort to respond – responsibly and efficiently – to rapid global shifts, while ensuring the protection of citizens’ purchasing power.
She added that the government will focus on developing and implementing practical, concrete, and effective measures aimed at mitigating the impact of rising prices on citizens’ daily lives, ensuring stability, and guaranteeing a steady supply of basic commodities to the national market, the text states.
As part of the government’s ongoing monitoring of issues affecting the daily lives of Moroccans, it has been decided to establish an interministerial committee – comprising all relevant government
departments – that will meet periodically to track price fluctuations and take necessary steps to protect citizens’ purchasing power, particularly regarding products in high demand during the holy month of Ramadan, the government statement reports.
The meeting was attended by the Minister of the Interior; the Secretary-General of the Government; the Minister of Economy, Finance, and Public Administration; the Minister of Agriculture, Maritime Fisheries, and Food Sovereignty; the Minister of Industry, Trade, Investment, and Economic Integration; and the Minister of Transport and Logistics.
