Cairo and Riyadh stressed the urgency of an international deployment in Gaza and intensified their consultations on the Sudanese conflict, amid a regional diplomatic realignment.
the two countries favour the immediate deployment of an international stabilisation force in Gaza and for strengthened regional coordination on tackling the crisis in Sudan.
This was known following a telephone conversation between Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, according to a statement released by the Egyptian Foreign Ministry on Monday.
During the conversation, the two officials advocated for the establishment of a Temporary International Stabilisation Force (ISF) in Gaza, tasked with monitoring the ceasefire, protecting civilians, ensuring unimpeded humanitarian access, and enabling Palestinian forces to resume their policing duties in the enclave.
Cairo believes the proposed deployment is an essential step in creating the conditions for a
swift recovery and reconstruction of a heavily devastated territory.
Badr Abdelatty also stressed the need to ensure a lasting ceasefire and to comply with relevant UN Security Council resolutions, calling for the effective implementation of existing international
commitments.
This position is part of a diplomatic approach aimed at further internationalising post-conflict management in Gaza, while limiting the risk of a prolonged security vacuum.
The talks also focused on the situation in Sudan, where Egypt and Saudi Arabia agreed to strengthen their coordination within the quadripartite mechanism, with the establishment of a comprehensive ceasefire as a priority. The Egyptian Foreign Minister stressed the urgent need to create safe havens and humanitarian corridors to facilitate the delivery of aid to civilian populations, while reaffirming Cairo’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and stability, as well as the preservation of its national institutions.
The talks took place as the Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereign Council, Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, arrived in Riyadh the same day.
This visit is part of an active diplomatic effort led by Saudi Arabia, in coordination with Egypt and the United States, aimed at influencing the course of the Sudanese conflict and preventing any
strategic reconfiguration of the Red Sea to the benefit of competing actors.
Prior to these regional issues, Cairo and Riyadh reaffirmed their commitment to further institutionalising their strategic partnership by finalizing arrangements for the first meeting of the Egyptian-Saudi Higher Coordination Council.
Both sides stressed the need to maintain close consultation in the coming months, in order to strengthen joint Arab action in the face of increasingly intertwined regional crises.
