Eswatini has extended its condolences to Qatar following the death of former Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, joining governments across the world in mourning a leader widely credited with transforming the Gulf state during his 18‑year rule.
In a message issued on behalf of King Mswati III, the Queen Mother, the government and the people of Eswatini, the kingdom conveyed its sympathies and expressed solidarity with Qatar during its period of national mourning. Sheikh Hamad, who ruled Qatar from 1995 until his abdication in 2013, is remembered for overseeing sweeping economic reforms, rapid infrastructure expansion and the emergence of Qatar as a major global energy producer.
His tenure also saw the establishment of Al Jazeera and the country’s growing diplomatic influence across the Middle East. Tributes have poured in from leaders across the region since his passing, reflecting his reputation as a statesman whose leadership reshaped Qatar’s modern identity.
Eswatini said the former Emir’s humility, dedication and commitment to national advancement earned him international respect and would continue to inspire future generations. The kingdom expressed hope that the people of Qatar would find strength in his legacy and comfort in the global support extended during this period of mourning.
