The Ethiopian Airlines has earned $5.6 billion in revenue during the first nine months of the current Ethiopian fiscal year which began on July 8, 2024, the airline’s Group CEO Mesfin Tasew said.
The revenue represents an 8 percent increase compared to the same period last year, said Tasew in an interview with local media on Tuesday.
He said that the airline transported 14.5 million passengers over the nine-month period, marking a 13 percent growth year-on-year.
In line with its expansion plans for the 2024-2025 Ethiopian fiscal year, Ethiopian Airlines has broadened its global reach by opening four new international destinations, further extending its flight network, said the CEO.
The CEO said the airline also took delivery of 10 new aircraft from manufacturers during the stated period.
Noting that the airlines became the first in Africa to introduce the Airbus A350-1000 into its fleet, the CEO said it is actively executing extensive projects as part of its long-term growth strategy, dubbed “Vision 2035.
Tasew highlighted the airline’s continuous investment in infrastructure development including the construction of a new mega international airport to support its ongoing growth.
He recalled that the Bole International Airport is reaching full capacity, prompting significant efforts to construct new airports.
As part of this vision, the airline is striving to become one of the most competitive and leading aviation groups in the world by providing safe, secure, market-driven, and customer-focused passenger and cargo transport, aviation training, airport management, and ground services.
