Ethiopian athlete Likina Amebaw won gold medal at the World Athletics Road Running Championships, clocking 14:41 and leaving her competitors far behind.
The victory came after she won at the World Ultimate Championship in 5000m in Budapest, Hungary a week ago.
World Athletics reports that Amebaw controlled the race in the first 1 kilometer, but she made the winning move at the 4th kilometer.
Kenyan athlete Caroline Gitonga did not respond to it, but she settled for the silver medal position, crossing the finish line in 14:48.
Rose Davies, from Australia, finished third in 14:50. According to the source, this marks an Oceanian record time. Aleshign Baweke, another Ethiopian athlete, finished fifth, clocking 14:53.
“I’m coming straight from Budapest, but the shift from track to road was not really difficult as I have been training both at the same time… The track was a bit difficult for me so running the 5km today was better and I felt good – I had prepared for road racing….” said Likina.
In June, Likina finished second at the Diomond League meet in Doha in 14:54.37 as her compatriot Medina Eisa claimed the title in 14:53.91. That followed her victory in the 5000 Meterd Diiamond League Rome in Golden Gala.
Earlier in the year, she finished second at the Valencia 10K Elite race, clocking a personal best time of 29:30. Last week, she claimed the World Athletics Ultimate champion title in Budapest, finishing the 5000 meters in 14:30 in style.
