The Moroccan national football team holds 7th place in the FIFA world rankings, according to the October edition published on Wednesday.
With Morocco ranked 7th globally, the FIFA rankings are notable for the significant progress made by CAF teams within the top 50.
Following two victories in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers and a friendly draw, the Moroccans improved their tally to 1,805.34 points.
This new ranking reflects Portugal’s impressive performance. Achieving the most significant rise within the top 10 – thanks to six Nations League victories – the Portuguese side has reclaimed 5th place (+2), a position they had lost in July, overtaking both Brazil (6th, -1) and Morocco (7th, -1).
At the continental level, Morocco continues to lead the African rankings, followed by Senegal in 18th place globally (unchanged) and Egypt, which has slipped to 25th place (-1).
The October edition accounts for 338 international matches played since July 19. These fixtures – which included UEFA and CONCACAF Nations League games as well as 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers – had a significant impact on this edition of the rankings, FIFA stated in a press release.
At the top of the table, world champions Spain (1st) have extended their lead. They are followed by Argentina (2nd) – the 2026 World Cup runners-up, now trailing by nearly 40 points – France (3rd), and England (5th). Africa stands out within the top 50 thanks to two of its representatives: Mali (47th, +6) and South Africa (48th, +6).
Both teams broke into the top 50 after climbing six places each.
According to FIFA, the performances of Mali and South Africa have also altered the confederation breakdown of the top 50. CAF now has 10 representatives in this exclusive group, having gained ground on UEFA (24, -1) and CONMEBOL (8, -1); both of the latter lost a nation – Czechia (51st, -3) and Peru (53rd, -3), respectively.
The AFC and CONCACAF each still have four teams among the top 50 nations, while OFC teams remain well outside the global top 50.
