The Ghanaian government has successfully concluded its large-scale repatriation operation following the safe arrival of 41 citizens at Accra International Airport.
This final group completes the evacuation of nearly 1,900 nationals brought home since May 2026 in response to xenophobic violence in South Africa. Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, alongside high-ranking diplomats and state officials, officially received the returnees and reaffirmed the administration’s long-term commitment to helping them re-establish their lives in Ghana.
To ensure a smooth transition, every returnee has received a comprehensive assistance package that includes direct financial aid, travel stipends, medical screening, and mental health counseling, alongside complimentary enrollment in the national health insurance scheme and job placement support.
Furthermore, authorities are building a dedicated registry of all affected individuals to grant them priority access to state welfare programs, vocational training, and educational scholarships. Urging the returnees to embrace these local opportunities, Minister Ablakwa emphasized that ongoing national economic initiatives aim to create a secure, prosperous environment for all citizens.
