Ghana has announced its withdrawal from the Africa Energies Summit, scheduled for London in May, due to alleged discrimination and the exclusion of African professionals from discussions on the continent’s energy future.
The Energy Chamber Ghana emphasises that the decision to boycott the Africa Energies Summit reflects the growing frustration within the African energy sector with discriminatory practices and marginalisation at international events.
“Ghana is not a mere spectator in Africa’s energy story; until platforms guarantee transparency and inclusion, it is responsible for reconsidering our participation,” Energy Chamber Ghana executive chairman Joshua B. Narh said.
The lack of participation by Ghana follows similar initiatives, including the boycott of the summit by Mozambique and ministers from the African Petroleum Producers’ Organisation.
The country, which is currently ramping up its oil production and developing gas infrastructure, is seeking to attract local and regional investment.
According to the chamber, international events should reflect African expertise, rather than excluding it from key decisions and roles.
