The Guinean government signed a milestone €269 million loan agreement with the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development on Thursday, September 10, to finance vital national infrastructure initiatives spanning healthcare, energy, and transport.
A primary focus of the funding package will target transport connectivity, allocating capital toward the paving and rehabilitation of 84 kilometers of strategic road networks along the Cissela–Banko–N’Dèma and Banko–Saraya corridors. This modernization effort is designed to open up the agricultural and commercial hubs of Dabola and Kouroussa prefectures, seamlessly linking local communities to National Road No. 1, which serves as a major trade artery connecting Conakry to Kankan and onward to Bamako.
Infrastructure Minister Facinet Sylla underscored the strategic value of the financial backing, noting that the infrastructure upgrades directly support the implementation of President Mamadi Doumbouya’s comprehensive Simandou 2040 Vision. By expanding power grid capabilities, upgrading medical centers, and improving rural-to-urban transit networks, the government aims to catalyze regional economic exchange and establish resilient foundation infrastructure. Bank representatives and ministry officials emphasized that the €269 million commitment reflects growing multilateral confidence in Guinea’s national development strategy and long-term economic trajectory.
