The Japanese government Wednesday says it is committed to strengthening Gambia’s food security through the provision of agricultural equipment and food assistance.
This commitment was made as the Japanese foreign minister Mr. Iwaya Takeshi met his Gambian counterpart, Sering Modou Njie, who is participating in the Ninth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD 9).
Minister Iwaya while reaffirming the strengthening of bilateral relations and cooperation in addressing challenges facing the international community with the Gambia, he said his country would support the digitalization of education and the introduction of food drying technology utilizing Japanese companies’ expertise, while also continuing to promote such public-private partnerships.
He described The Gambia as an important friend that shares values and principles such as democracy and the rule of law.
Minister Njie expressed his country’s gratitude to Japan for its unalloyed support and stated his desire to further strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena.
The two minister also vowed to work together to respond to various regional and international challenges, including North Korea in relation to nuclear and missile issues, abductions and reforms at the United Nations Security Council.
