Kenya has sanctioned 84 companies operating the country for flouting business regulations while hundreds of other firms face a similar fate, APA can report from Nairobi on Tuesday.
Publishing four Gazette Notices last Friday the Registrar of Companies dissolved firms it claims had failed to meet statutory requirements to lawfully stay in business within Kenya.
“The Registrar of Companies gives notice that the names of the companies specified hereunder shall be struck off from the Register of Companies at the expiry of three (3) months from the date of publication of this notice, and invites any person to show cause why the companies should not be struck off from the Register of Companies” the registrar of companies said.
The sanctions affect companies involved in the hospitality, agricultural, transport and real estate sectors.
The firms dissolved include Abuseif Beans Importer Limited, Africom Communication Limited, Agrofield Export and Import Limited, Decor Gallery Kenya Limited, Jumeira Specialist Clinic Limited, Thika Petroleum Limited, and Wild Eden Limited.
Gazette Notices namely 13207, 13208, 13209, and 13210, pursue firms thought to have breached statutory obligations under Kenya’s Companies Act (Cap. 486).
The firms in question had not maintained active or compliant operations, including failure to file annual returns, ceasing trading without notice, or stopped short of meeting regulatory requirements.
Over 1000 other firms may also be dissolved and have been issued warnings to that effect should they continue operating without addressing their operational shortcomings.
