The city of Marrakech is set to host the 19th World Water Congress from December 1st to 5th, gathering over 1,500 global participants to address critical challenges concerning water resources and redistribution.
Held under the theme “Water in a Changing World: Innovation and Adaptation,” the Congress is organized by the Ministry of Equipment and Water and the International Water Resources Association (IWRA). The event aims to foster dialogue among a diverse group of stakeholders, including policymakers, experts, researchers, and representatives from the public, private, and civil sectors.
The five-day global event will offer a wide-ranging program designed to share knowledge and accelerate action on Sustainable Development Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation). Key activities include: Four High-Level Panels and a Ministerial Roundtable. Over 140 technical sessions led by international experts. Scientific presentations and exhibitions showcasing the most innovative water technologies and projects. Cultural and technical tours illustrating Morocco’s advancements in water management.
Moroccan Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, stated that the Congress offers an “exceptional platform for dynamic exchanges, enriching learning, and active contribution to global initiatives” aimed at achieving the SDGs.
Professor Yuanyuan Li, President of the IWRA, expressed delight in hosting the 19th edition in Marrakech, noting that Morocco has been anticipating this return since it last hosted the event in 1991.
The Congress will conclude with the Marrakech Declaration, a collective appeal intended to strengthen the link between science, policy, and action, accelerating global mobilization around water challenges.
