Morocco has reaffirmed its unwavering support for the stability and national unity of Mali in the wake of the coordinated terrorist attacks that targeted multiple locations across the country on April 25.
During a press conference held on Wednesday following discussions with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Landau, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita emphasized that the stability of Mali is a fundamental requirement for the broader security of the region. Bourita strongly condemned the “unacceptable” strikes against military and civilian installations, which resulted in a significant loss of life, and expressed Morocco’s solidarity with the victims.
The Foreign Minister warned that the Sahel region is currently navigating a very critical historical phase. He specifically highlighted a dangerous collusion between separatist movements and terrorist organizations, calling for urgent and coordinated action from both regional and international stakeholders. Bourita advocated for a shift toward “reverse dynamics” that prioritize stability and respect for the will of local populations, urging for regional relations to be built on cooperation rather than the tactics of blackmail and intimidation.
In Mali, Transitional President General Assimi Goïta addressed the nation regarding the simultaneous attacks on Bamako, Kati, Konna, Mopti, Gao, and Kidal, characterizing them as part of a sophisticated destabilization strategy funded by internal and external sponsors. Despite the complexity of the April 25 offensive, the Malian leader assured the public that the security situation has been brought under control.
