The public prosecution authorities of Morocco and Cabo Verde have formalized their commitment to enhanced cooperation in the fight against complex transnational crime by signing a collaborative agreement in Rabat on Monday, May 12th.
The agreement aims to deepen technical and judicial exchanges between the two nations.
Moulay El Hassan Daki, the outgoing Attorney General of the King at the Court of Cassation and head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office (PMP), held an extensive meeting with his Cabo Verdean counterpart, Luís Tavares Landim, at the institution’s headquarters. The Cabo Verdean magistrate is currently on a working visit to Morocco, accompanied by a high-level delegation, which will continue until May 17th.
Discussions during the meeting centered on potential avenues for direct collaboration between the two public prosecution offices. Key areas of focus included prosecution matters, the secure exchange of sensitive information, and the enhancement of judicial quality standards for the benefit of citizens in both Morocco and Cabo Verde. Both parties emphasized their commitment to grounding this cooperation in the principles of sovereignty, equality, reciprocity, and strict adherence to fundamental rights. The meeting also served as a platform to present recent developments within the Moroccan judicial system, notably the increased autonomy of the public prosecutor’s office. Furthermore, it provided an opportunity to outline the areas of expertise within the national prosecutor’s office and detail ongoing projects aimed at strengthening the implementation of criminal policy.
The cooperation protocol signed at the conclusion of the meeting establishes a framework for a structured technical program. This program will encompass cross-training initiatives for judicial personnel, reciprocal field visits to gain practical insights, and the joint organization of conferences addressing issues of mutual concern in the fight against transnational crime.
